ATTENTION BIG BORE 44 SAM YANG OWNERS!

Have you ever thought about getting more power from your  big bore? ( i think the avg stock form is 160-185 fpe) how would you like to get  an avg of 270 fpe!? with a high in the 300 fpe range? well, if you do then. I have to tell you what happen to me here in the past week. ( unbelieveable but, true!)

Now don’t get me wrong, I love my daq and careers(mainly my daq and fire 201)  but there is something just a little bit different about the big bore 44. i can’t really put a finger on it but, it’s just something. Right out of the box ( well, after about 20 shots through it) i could get 187 fpe out of it for two shots then the fpe would go down to the 160 range  then down from there fast ( i mean real fast too)   To me, i thought i lucked out and got a real hard shooter and just kept my mouth shut about it in the hopes that it would stay that way forever.  Last year, i went on a ram hunt with Eric,Big Bore Bob,Zack,Leroy, and Richard ( real cool bunch of guys) I had a blast! any way, while i was there, i spoke to Leroy about his BSA, ( nice rifle) and he told me that he wanted to do a few things to it to get the power up a little.I showed him my career 707 carbine in 25 cal and told him I was getting about 65 fpe out of it and he said  ” man,I have to get me one of them, I betcha I could get more power out of it too.” At the time I just shook my head and let it go. That’s been awhile ago now and all of a sudden I get a call from Leroy and he just kinda laid it out there, ” Hey man, what’s up? remember when I told you I could get more power out that career? well, I have a friend that has a big bore 44 and it started out  doing 170 fpe now, it’s doing 252 fpe avg!,  i’m still working on it,I should be able to get  close to 270 fpe with it. That’s pretty good huh?”  To tell you guys the truth,I almost past out! I said now come on, 250 fpe? he said yea, and I  may be able to get more.and keep the  shots at around 4 good ones. without another word I  went to reach for a pen and said  ” man, give my your address. He did and I sent him my big bore 44.   Two days went by and I get a call,  ” man, I figured it out!  your gun  is doing a 4 shot string using a 175 grain bullet as follows: 863, 887, 833, 812 , man, i have to go right now but will keep you posted”  he hung up . The next morning I get a call bright and early ” man, I got you pushing that same bullet with a string of 4 at : 900, 853, 856, 823.. “  so I asked if I could tell any one he said go ahead, make my day so here you go :  phone # leroy roduner 316-409-5969. good luck. oh by the way, the fpe of the last set of #s are:314, 282,284, and 263. that’s an avg of 285 fpe!

  1. I think that you are the fellow who had the Dragonslayer with the cracked stock for sale a while back, is that correct? If it is, do you still have it for sale, and if so, at what price? Best, Jack

  2. Well, it was a long story but to make it short. The wife at that time was trying to get back at me and she sold some of my airguns. To me, it was never for sale. sorry about that. All is forgiven now, things are working out.

  3. Hi Jim. Photos i received. Thanks

  4. Hi i m an air gun (big bore) amateur! I m going to buy big bore sam yang airgun and i would like that Leroy roduner make it like yours! Now here is the thing, i m from Slovenia (Evropa) and is it posible that i buy it (from piramidair) and then they send it to mr. Leroy he than make it better and than he send it to me i m going to pay everything in advance if he like (for the post, for repairs…)

  5. Morning Sniper99,

I was woundering if your friend Leroy was still worinking the Sam Yang 44?
I have left a message for him to call from the phone number on your website… Hope it is still a good number.
    Please let me know.

    Thanks, Dan

  6. Aloha from the 50th state, Honolulu ,Pearl City, Hawaii. Does this guy Leroy still supe up the 909s Big Bores. If so Write me back at my e-mail address.or on this forum so I can read it later on. I had to send my 909s back to pyramid air because I tried filling it with the scuba tank at least 25 times and it first stuck about a half inch into a 2×4 wood and the rest was making a dent and bouncing off of the same wood so it was so weak I was getting so dissapointed and frustrated, because from what I hear it supposed to blast through a 2×4 and still fly even further. so I sent it back to the technician because of that and air was leaking out where you put the probe to fill the air. I’m now just waiting for them to repair the problem and I know there is one, even though they try to talk me through the problem. so I said to pyramid air please repair it or e me a new one.

  7. hi i am alex and i have been doing lots of research on both the big bore 909s and the career dragon slayer. But i still dont know what the better deal is ! can you hep me please !!!

  8. What’ up Alex, From what I learned so far by reading expert reviews is that the dragon slayer is a solid riffle but the things I read say that the 909s has a bigger variety of ammunition to choose from. And I also read that the 909s is more powerful. Or if you have the money then I would buy both the 909s and the dragon slayer. But this is just from what I read from the experts who have both the 909s and the dragon slayer.

  9. The dragon Slayer is a good rifle but, the Sam Yang 909 is more powerful. I had a Dragon Slayer that was modded by Big Bore Bob and the 909 was still motre powerful than it was . Now don’t get me wrong, You can hunt hogs with a Dragon Slayer and hunt other “big game for an airgun” with it It’s just that for the money I’ll go for the 909.

  10. I got my 909s big bore from Sam Yang back from pyramid air and the tech there just fixed my scuba diving yoke and instead of two hose meaning one connected to the gauge and the other one was connected to the probe to fill the riffle’s air chamber. WOW! now this thing is an animal and beast; I mean for real. This thing scares me it’s super powerful. I used a 170 gr., 225gr, the round balls, and some 451. and 452. diameter .45 cal slugs and all of them shot through my 2×4 wood targets and all made the perfect slug size hole in the entry and blasted a huge hole ripping through the back. Be very careful cause it’s the real deal but instead of black powder you’re just using compressed air which is very powerful and needs to be respected.

  11. Sorry I left out that the tech converted the two hoses into one hose connecting the pressure gauge to it and he made a air release valve where the other hose used to be. So now I have all 3000 psi going straight into the air chamber.

  12. That’s cool! Now if you can, try and find some 454 cal round balls. They should shoot very hard and be very accurate out of your rifle. I shot a hog with my 909 using the 454 cal round ball and it hit him in the head and blew through the other side and out into the woods. This was at a distance of 52 yards!.

  13. Wow! Sniper99, it’s a pleasure to finally get a response of some kind from you. So like I said if you’re ever in Oahu, Hawaii let me know on this chat thang and I don’t know if you got my other message saying that my back yard is the mountains or valley with lot’s of boars and we can hunt anytime. Hit me up ad again thanks for your videos which I very much enjoy watching. Aloha and GOD bless Kerry.

  17. Hello,
I was looking for a large caliber air rifle…something with a low report so that if there is other game in the area it won’t scare them away. I was thinking big bore as in big enough to take down a small coyote, or large rabbit. This gun blows me away! What game animals have you taken with your rifle? I have yet to pick one up, but was wondering if you could make any suggestions on which is the best rifle you have shot? You have obviously been doing this a lot longer than I, and I would appreciate any feedback you can give!!!
    Thanks for your time,
    Kevin

  22. Hi Sniper:
Your site is great and informative. I have a Sam Yang 909 Light Hunter with scope, fill adapter, Foster adapter, tripod and hard case. The gun is at Pyramid for repair) wouldn’t hold air) On return wish to sell entire outfit for very fair price. Any buyers interested? It was only used twice and killed a nice deer the first time. I just lost interest in the rifle! Thanks!

  23. Hay Sniper,
How about shootin sabots to get higher velocities = better penetration.

  24. Dear Sniper99,
Have enjoyed info on Sam Yang .45 Cal Big Bore Air Rifle.
Have three customers interested in piece, but have not been able to locate a wholesale source.
Where can they be found and you have mentioned LeRoy. What does he modify on the 909S to improve it and how do I touch base with him if I can find a 909S.
Noted that some of the larger Air Rife Online people have indicted that they don’t have them available either.
Is there a problem with these units to your Knowledge?
I’ll look forward to hear from you.
Air sources are not a problem, I an authorized SCUBA Dealer as well as Sporting Goods and Aviation Survival Equipment.

  25. I own a Big Bore 909. I wouuld like to know the cost of modifying this air rifle? And where to send it to. thank You

I was always told I could store my 909 (or any PCP) with a full charge (3000psi). However, the owners manual recommends not doing so. Which is correct? Thanks!
